>TRICKY AND TIGHT - MAEDA HAS THE SOLUTION! - 02-03-10 Top

At work on the swimming poolThis picture shows an MC405 putting the finishing touches to the panoramic façade of an indoor/outdoor pool in Bavaria, Germany.
Maeda's South German distributor, Uplifter, provided the whole solution for this operation - mini crane, glass handler and professional operator to ensure the job was completed within the specified time.

Very often jobs come up where restricted space requires a machine that is small yet powerful at the same time. Uplifter successfully completed this job to a high standard in just one working day.

>MC405 IN AMERICA - 09-02-10 Top

The MC405 at work erecting steelA Maeda MC405-C has been squeezing into tight spots on top of a Houston office construction project where its small stature and maneuverability outstrip the larger cranes.
Inman Texas Co supplied the Mini Crane to specialty contractor Milestone Metals for an office building under construction in Houston, Texas. Milestone Metals specializes in the erection of ornamental metal and has worked on projects ranging from small art installations to large-scale construction projects such as the current Discovery Tower project.

The Discovery Tower project is a 30-storey, 872,000-square-foot office building which should be finished for occupancy in the second quarter of 2010. The Mini Crane started work in October to erect turbine steel at the top of the structure. The three-storey steel structure at the top of the tower will house turbines that will provide electricity for the building.
Lifted on to the roof by a tower crane, the Mini Crane was then tracked into the confined roof-top spaces for completion of the job. Its duties included lifting beams and other materials while erecting structures on the roof. On the job with a tower crane, the Mini Crane allows Milestone to complete lifts and set steel without having to wait for the tower crane which saves both idle time and man hours to complete its part of the project.

"By having the Maeda there we were able to have more crews installing steel," says Bob Macey, vice president of Milestone Metals. "We have one crew that's using a tower crane, and the Maeda Mini Crane can come in and start doing the infill pieces, which speeds up productivity."

With a maximum capacity of 8,480 pounds, the machine has lifted most of the smaller 2,000- to 3,000-pound loads, while the larger tower crane takes care of the 3,000- to 8,000-pound lifts. The Mini Crane, which has a maximum boom length of 54 feet and 360 swing, can get into tight, crowded jobsites. The maneuverability of the Mini Crane has been an asset to Milestone Metals. "It's been really easy for us to move around the rooftop." says Macey. "You get into places that you can't with the larger cranes."

The working environment, with lots of activity and confined spaces, makes the Maeda Mini Crane beneficial for jobs like the Discovery Tower, according to John Carpenter, crane sales for Inman Texas Co. It's all about effective use of man hours, assets, equipment, and most importantly, erecting the steel safely and efficiently. "It's got all the same safety features that a big crane does, just in a mini package," Carpenter says. "Plus the Maeda models are all ASME B30.5 compliant, as required by OSHA, and
have EPA compliant engines."

The Maeda Mini Crane puts Milestone Metals's operator in direct line of sight with the crew so he does not have to operate in the blind by radio. The operator can then place the steel precisely using the Mini Crane and hold it while it is bolted or welded to the structure. "Their operator's in direct view with their riggers and steel workers that are actually bolting or welding the pieces together, so it's a lot safer for them," says Carpenter. With two speeds for travel, the crane has an electric motor option, so
it also can be used for indoor applications. Adding to its convenience, the crane can be easily transported on a small trailer.

>A TIGHT SQUEEZE! - 20-12-09 Top

Just Enough Room....For jobs where access is strictly limited, Maeda Mini Cranes really come into their own as illustrated on this recent job for Francis Holland School in London.

For the contract, Archer Structures had around 30 tonnes of steel to erect in a courtyard building locked in a basement 3 meters deep. Access was via a pair of double doors and then through a personnel corridor.

Two Maeda Mini Cranes were hired to complete the job, although it was always going to be tight. This picture illustrates just what a close shave it really was! Both cranes were tracked down the corridor and when they emerged one lifted the other down into the basement pit. The second crane then completed the steel erection prior to being hoisted from the pit by the first crane. Both cranes then track back through the corridor job done!

An excellent example of the versatility that Maeda Mini Cranes offer where other cranes just can't compete.

>MAEDA CUSTOMER TRIP TO JAPAN - 02-12-09 Top

Customer TripLast week (commencing 23rd November), Kranlyft took a group of Maeda owners and dealers to visit Maeda Seisakusho in Nagaon, Japan. At the factory, Maeda made a presentation of the company and their products. Among the products being presented was the new LC383 with a 1.45 ton pick and carry capacity.

The specification of the LC383 is not ready yet and we wait with much anticipation until February 2010 when we will be able to disclose more information on this particular model. Introductions will officially take place at the Bauma Exhibition in April 2010. The whole group had an opportunity to test the entire Mini Crane range, including a previous version of the LC383.

During the trip there were also several opportunities to learn more about the Japanese culture and a day of sightseeing led the group to a Buddhist temple, a wasabi farm and Matsumoto Castle (see picture). The last night in Nagano was spent in a Spa hotel where everyone had the pleasure of sleeping on the floor on tatami mats with rice pillows and enjoying the warm springs and warm baths outside - not just work!!

The trip was an enormous success and everyone was very pleased with the hospitality extended by Maeda. Erkki Hanhirova of Havator in Finland said "Maeda Seisakusho is a company with a big, warm heart."

>DELICATE WORK FOR AN MC104 - 26-11-09 Top

MC104A Maeda MC104 CER has been working at the famous Park Hotel Vitznau in the heart of Switzerland on the border of Lake Lucerne. The hotel is set in the foothills of the Rigi mountain, known as the Queen of the Mountains.

Built in the 'Belle Époque' style, the Park Hotel Vitznau was opened in 1903. It has been closed down for substantial renovations since Autumn 2009 and is expected to reopen at the end of 2011 when all work is complete.

The job tasked to Nello's was to take down the antique chandeliers from a height of 1.6 - 1.8m. The work had to be done on old, wobbly, wooden floors. To minimize the ground pressure in the historical environment, the floor was covered with metal sheets before the crane was installed. The crane was also set up at points where pillars or walls provided support underneath.

It was not a heavy duty job, but a very delicate one. The sort of work that Maeda Mini Cranes excel in over all other machines.

For more information please contact Nello's on + 41 62 752 99 90 or visit www.minikrane.ch

>LC785 HELPS CONSTRUCT A 'LIVING BUILDING' - 20-10-09 Top

The Living BuildingTrend-setting Architect Ferdinand Ludwig constructed a futuristic building consisting of living plants with the help of German Maeda distributor Uplifter, who provided an LC785 to complete the work.

"This was fascinating for me from the beginning" said Martin Lobinger, General Manager of Uplifter GmbH & Co. KG. Several silver willows were grown into each other in a symmetric grid construction that would be able to carry three heavy-weight floors. The highest platform was up to 8 meters in height with a surface of 8 square meters.

Within eight years the plants will have developed and be solid enough to carry the whole construction by themselves, until then it will be supported by steel scaffolding. The name of this unique construction is 'building-botanic-tower' and is the first of this kind in the world.

The whole project was meticulously planned. For the background he chose a reed landscape at Lake Constance. This is a wild grass landscape with soft ground which posed the problem how could each single element, which was heavy and delicate, be hoisted up? A problem that Uplifter solved with ease.

Martin Lobinger delivered the crown prince of their Maeda range to Lake Constance, the LC785. Despite worsening ground conditions this maneuverable power machine with tracks coped with the challenges so well that the tower that the tower was completely finished by the third day, two days ahead of schedule.

>HOUSTON, TEXAS INTERCONTINENTAL AIRPORT - 17-09-09 Top

Houston Airport

News from across the Atlantic at Houston, Texas Intercontinental Airport building tells of an inter-terminal rail line being constructed on an elevated platform.
The crane, an MC405 CRM-E, was provided by Inman Texas Company - the Maeda representative in Texas.

The work site was 20 meters above ground level and the MC405 was working for 2 months erecting steel for the rail line building structures.
The only alternative to using a Maeda Mini Crane was to use a much larger crane working from the ground at a long radius and boom length, likely requiring a luffing boom attachment. The cost of using a larger crane was extremely high compared to the Maeda.Furthermore it would have required blocking road access to the airport terminal, impossible when the airport was open and operational.

The contractor completed the steel erection ahead of schedule and well below budget by using the MC405, a classic example of how Maeda Mini Cranes overcome limited access, confined spaces and eliminate the need for much larger and more expensive cranes.

>DELICATE WORK FOR AN MC305 - 16-09-09 Top

Recently, Nello's of Switzerland was asked to find a solution to lifting different parts of an organ that was being rebuilt in the Cloister of Bellelay. The cloister was built more than 600 years ago and is one of the most esteemed buildings in Switzerland.Several fires destroyed the original cloister and the current building was constructed at the beginning of the 18th Century.

The work was extremely delicate as the floor is covered with old tiles. The individual parts of the organ weighted up to 300kg and it had to be installed in the newly renovated church with lots of stuccowork, at a height of 15m and be lifted over a banister.

Nello's mastered the job with an MC305 CRM-E as this model was the maximum weight the floor could support. To reach the lifting height of 15m, a fly jib was attached.

The cloister belongs to the canton of Bern today and is used for exhibitions and concerts. For more information please contact Nellos info@nellos.ch or visit www.nellos.ch

>MC285 PROVES ITS WORTH IN GLASS HANDLING - 20-07-09 Top

A Maeda MC285 was recently at work installing new glass panels in the stadium housing Belgiums top football team, RSC Anderlecht.
Euroglas Delandtsheer hired the mini crane from Heli, Maeda's Belgian distributor, to work on the glass panels in front of the business seats in the stadium.

6 panels in the stadium needed to be removed and replaced at the end of the football season due to balls hitting the glass during games.

The only entrance to the glass panels was through the staircases in the stands. Gunther Van Den Hove of Heli said "It was a tricky job because of the staircases and the confined working area, but once again the Maeda Mini Crawler Cranes have proven their worth in glass handling. The first day we were there to give training to the people of Euroglas. Although they had experience of cranes, they had never worked with a Maeda Mini Crane before. Now they have seen the abilities and lifting capacities of the mini cranes they are convinced the product will help with more jobs in the future."

Kurt De Landtsheer of Euroglas said "This machine is just perfect for this kind of job.A lot of other companies came to see the job but we were the only ones who knew it could be completed as we knew about the capabilities of the Maeda Mini Crane.Together with Heli we decided the MC285 was the perfect machine for the job. These machines are so powerful and smooth in operation that not even stairs gets in their way.We completed the job in 1 day which even we didn't think would be possible."

>MAEDA'S AT WORK IN THE GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM - 15-07-09 Top

305

Two Maeda MC285's were recently at work in the German Guggenheim Museum to put together a piece of art.

The artwork has been created by Anish Kapoor and resembles a steel tank constructed of Cor-Ten steel skin that is 8mm thick. When fully assembled the exhibit weighs 24 tons. The individual pieces that make up the exhibition weigh at least 1 ton but some up to as much as 2.2 tons.

The exhibit was installed in an enclosed room at the museum so the tight space and limited access required a crane that was small enough to gain access to the display area yet still had the required reach and capacity to make the lifts. The indoor environment required the electric motor in order to avoid engine emissions.

>EDINS GOES FOR MAEDA - 01-07-09 Top

Edins Kranar, one of the major crane operators in Sweden has recently entered the Mini Crane market by investing in three Maeda Minicrawlers with 2, 3, and 4 ton capacity to complement their existing range of mobile, lorry and tower cranes. The MC285, MC305 and MC405 offer a new market position and enable Edins to serve their customers in areas never before possible with traditional cranes.

Christer Edin of Edins Kranar says "In a highly competitive market you must always offer your customer the best solution from an economical as well as a technical point of view."

Edins have major contracts conducting lifting jobs in the city of Stockholm but restrictions from the city council makes it impossible to work with larger cranes in many parts of the city. This is where the slim design and excellent lifting capabilities of the Maeda Mini Cranes come into their own and make it possible to complete jobs in areas previously inaccessible to other cranes

>VERTIKAL DAYS 2009, HAYDOCK PARK - 29-06-09 Top

Vertikal Days 2009 took place at Haydock Park on the 24th and 25th June this year. The brilliant sunshine certainly helped create the atmosphere for the 2-day event and brought a record number of visitors to the show. Our Maeda stand was the showcase for the 2 newest cranes in our range - the MC174 and LC1385. We were also exhibiting an MC285 with a glass suction unit attached, it's first outing so far which we are excited to say generated quite a bit of interest.

We were pleased to welcome a steady flow of visitors to the stand throughout the show, representing many industries from construction and utilities through to a powered access company looking to expand their offerings. The completion of a deal saw Tony Gettins and Phil Lomax of Tracked Access take delivery of an MC285CRM-E. Their 25th Maeda Mini Crane, it has already been put out on rental as Tracked Access continues to surpass all growth expectations.

With more meetings lining up we are confident of many more deals to take us through into the second half of the year. Everyone that came to our stand was extremely positive about the future with new jobs coming up and business seemed, if not booming, at least to be on the up once again.

>MAEDA IN ACTION AT POLAND'S LARGEST SHOPPING AND ENTERTAINMENT COMPLEX - 29-06-09 Top

The construction of the largest shopping and entertainment complex in Poland is currently underway. Bonarka City Centre in Krakow will comprise of 270 shops when completed. Currently 95% of the building's shell has been erected. It will create about 3,500 jobs during the construction stage and will require around 3,000 new staff once the centre is open.

During the construction work, Maeda cranes were needed due to the limited space and low load capacity of the floor materials.ITS Michalszewski rented out two MC285's and one MC305 in order to complete the works. The MC285 was use to place air-conditioning units on the roof of the main building while the MC305 was ideally suited to lift the wooden struts that will form the restaurant construction inside the pavillion.

The Maeda Mini Cranes were ideal due to limited space but required lifting capacity. While carrying out the work the operator used the remote control and diesel engine.

>MINI CRANES HELP THE ENVIRONMENT - 07-06-09 Top

Leader, our Maeda Mini Crane distributor in Italy, recently sent us this picture of an MC305 being used in the construction of a 'green' project in Italy.

The crane was being used to build a wooden structure within a park where only wooden construction is allowed. The building will be used in the future for bird watching and other environmentally friendly activities.

For more information please contact Leader in Italy.

>MINI CRANES REACH PLACES OTHER CRANES CAN'T ....... Top

Laidlaw cranes recently completed a job in Whitehall, London where the lifting of certain equipment for use on the job with standard cranes was impossible due to the architecture of the building.
2 sets of 300kg Air Handling Units were required in the building but the position of entry and balustrades above and below meant that a different solution to the problem was required.
It was decided that a Mini Crane was a perfect fit for the job, and the MC285CRM-E was chosen due to its impressive lifting ability coupled with a super-slim design.

First the Mini Crane was lifted up onto the building using a 25 ton crane. Then the mini crane was tracked 50 metres into its final position. The 2 Air Handling Units were lifted onto the roof and moved up to the Mini Crane on a pallet truck. The MC285 then lifted the Air Handling units up over the railing above into position where they were needed.

Another job successfully completed, time and time again these Mini Cranes are proving what a versatile and practical alternative they can be.

>INTERMAT 2009, PARIS Top

Intermat 2009 took place in Paris over 20th-25th April. The gorgeous weather brought people out in force and Maeda's first ever appearance at Intermat was highly successful. Our main purpose for attending the show was to set up a dealer network that will cover the whole of France by the end of the year. The show was a fantastic start to this project with a lot of interest being shown.
It was also a great platform for our first French dealer, MGL (covering the south of France), to kickstart their rental and sales business.
The Maeda Mini-Crawler Crane concept was a huge hit with the French companies and we were delighted to be able to talk through their capabilities.

The Maeda stand introduced our 2 new models:
The MC174 sets the standard that other mini cranes try to achieve. With even smaller dimensions (only 59cm wide) it has the biggest capacity in its class of up to 1.7 tonnes and unparalleled safety standards.

The LC1385 is the strongest of all our models with a width less than 2.5m and a lifting capacity of 6 tonnes. With the option of being able to mount a fly-jib, it has a maximum lifting height of 22m and a pick & carry duty of 2 tonnes.

>PROJECT QATAR 2009, DOHA Top

Project Qatar this year took place during 27th-30th April at the Doha Exhibition Centre in Qatar and was bigger and better than ever before.
Taking the stand was our new dealer for Qatar, Q-Fabwww.qfab.com.qa
Q-Fab have been trading for around 17 years in Qatar and are the main agents for New Holland, Dynapac and Hek Mastclimbers amongst others.
Having recently taken delivery of an MC305CRM-E and an MC285CRM-E, we are excited about this new partnership and the opportunities available as Qatar's construction and real estate markets continue to grow.

>RESTORATION WORK IN POLAND Top

During recent restoration work carried out inside the Prime Minister's Office in Poland, workers discovered some historical stairs that had been built in 1904. The stairs are situated in front of the main entrance, under a new floor which had been rebuilt and laid over the top. The Chief of Administration at the Head Office decided that the stairs should be restored and covered with a glass floor for all to see.
After initial inspections were carried out, it became clear that a mini crane was needed to complete the work.

Manual installation of the glass floor was impossible due to the weight of the glass plates (800kg each). It was crucial to have a machine with rubber tracks and electric engine due to the sensitive nature of the restoration work being carried out. There had to be no danger of damage to the floor.Crucially, the entrance was only 1.5m wide! Inside the building there was only 25 square metres of space with a 30 degree difference in ground level.
Due to the confined working space and required lifting weight it was clear that the Maeda 305 CRM-E was the perfect machine to finish the restoration work.
During the glass handling the operator used the remote control and electric motor.

> KRANLYFT TO EXHIBIT AT INTERMAT 2009 - 03-04-09 Top

Kranlyft are greatly looking forward to exhibiting the entire range of world famous Maeda Mini Cranes at Intermat this April. Alongside their bestselling range are two new machines which the company are especially thrilled about showing off to the world. The all new MC174 is set to become the new standard in this growing market by combining class leading diminutive proportions along with incredible lifting power. This machine fits in the range as the bigger brother to the already hugely successful LC785 but adds more capacity and working range into the package. The LC1385B has a maximum capacity of 6 tons and contains many brand new features never seen before on this type of machine including amongst others a front blade and rear view camera which add up to making this machine much more versatile on site and also a great deal easier to use.
